Up and running is the new George Choir. Run by Victoria it is an informal meeting place to sing songs together. Happening every Wednesday in the bar, from 7-9pm. Feel free to bring along songs that everyone can learn. Come along – Its really fun!

sunday workshops at the george

wood carving workshops are taking place in the garden at the george every sunday. we are also keen for this to develop into life drawing, mask making, instrument making and story telling workshops, possibly with the aim of working towards collaboration. after all, these skills are all complimentary! so get involved. all free, of course!

Arrive at the George at about one oclock and bring food to share x

We had a great night of acoustic guitar singer wizardry, ewan sat axd piano music bomb extraordinaire and sets of glitch and african recorded splendor to dance away beneath the trees. On friday the thirteenth of february we reconvene to raise the bar so come all ye musicians, jugglers, experimental dancers, actors, artists, poets and lovelies, and bring a friend for we have much to do!

Anyone interested in helping to stage a progressive performance, scripted as a site-specific and evolving music-theatre-puppetry-etc collaboration?

Hello

This Saturday, the 24th of January we will be starting with the Metamorphosis of George. Please come bearing poetry and musical instruments for an evening of art, music and discussion amongst the trees. Participation is most welcome and this evening will be a great time to brainstorm ideas for future nights. We will be starting at 8pm. Bring along anyone who likes to share in the creation of good things with amicable folk.

If anyone is interested in lending a hand, making something, playing something, do get in touch or just turn up. you know where to find us!

wrote this a couple of weeks ago, i’d really like to see it illustrated so i can put together pamphlets or short books to give out and/or sell. i’m sure there are plenty there among you who could help make it something really lovely. please feel free to let me know or have a go. my email is rhwhitephoenix@gmail.com

bedtime story

there was a god
once upon a very long time ago -
to tell the story as i heard it
i should say -
before there was any time at all
and when everything hadn’t happened yet
there was a god
he dreamed himself
and this is how it happened

all of the possible anythings
that ever there could be
had been asleep
all cuddled up together
sharing the best kind of warmth that there is
which is the kind of warmth that you get
from putting your arms around someone
that puts their arms around you too
and their sleep was full of rest

this was the first sleep that ever happened anywhere, and so
it was the only
ever
sleep.
a sleep for ever.
there were no dreams in this sleep because dream hadn’t woken yet
this sleep was just a peacefulness of quiet
like a sheet laid flat upon a bed
just waiting for someone to ruffle it up
and
into this very peaceful sleep
awoke a god

to tell the story the way i heard it, i
shouldn’t call him a god
they don’t like that word themselves anyway, but
i want it to be clear that
who it was that woke that night
into the long clear sleep of
all the possible anythings
was not a person like you or i
but something greater than that -
and something simpler too
he liked to call himself a beat
and that’s what he was
because that moment when he woke up
sent a shudder through all his other sleeping companions
one by one

if you’ve ever slept with your head
upon another person’s shoulder
then you know what i mean -
you turn your head a fraction
their shoulder rolls beneath you
well
this happened all at once
across the endless sleep
of every thing that could ever be
the moment that beat woke up

he opened his eyes and hunched up on his elbows, and
because his eyes had opened
the very first eyes
for the very first time
a light shone out before him
showing all the sleeping possibilities
that ever there could be
the like of which had never then been seen

he watched the ripple of movement
which had started as he woke
shuffle across the silent night, past
all the maybes, could bes, should bes and we’ll sees
like a wave
and he followed it

the first time he clapped
he invented time
the second time he understood it
he clapped and clapped on
as the little shuffling ripples
flickered across the endless sea
and time woke up to bang a drum beside him

they sat together, beat and time
inseperable
mirrors of each other
beat clapping his joy and wonder
at what he saw before him
after him
inbetween him and
forever
and time banged on in agreement
“yes, brother,” he said, “it’s beautiful
but just don’t get lost”

and so, together
beat and time followed movement
all across everything
in every direction
that there could ever be
as far as any eyes could ever hope to ever see

and at that very moment -
far across the sleeping sea of possibility
movement, herself
who’d been resting peacefully
her head on the shoulder of beauty
raised herself from sleep
woken by the joyful sound of
time playing with beat

and tapped her feet
